Random Act of Kindness

According to Wikipedia, a “random act of kindness” is a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual person or people.   Random acts of kindness are usually anonymous.

My favorite local radio station Star 99.1, suggests the “drive thru difference” which is simple: Go to a drive-thru for your morning coffee, out for a quick bite for lunch, or anywhere you go to make a purchase and just pay the bill of the person behind you and show a little kindness. You’ll impact someone’s day in ways much greater than just buying something for yourself.  A fun and easy (also inexpensive way) to impact someone’s day.

I say all of this to express my gratitude for the random act of kindness that I was blessed with this past weekend.  I have been contemplating a new (or used) basic sewing machine.  I have hesitated because I am trying very hard to watch finances and stay on budget.  At this time, although my “creative side” says go for it no matter the cost – my practical side says “is it a necessity and can you pay cash?”.  Okay, since the answer to both of those questions were a resounding NO, I decided to wait.  Over the weekend, I was talking to a fellow crafter, whose work I admire.  She is very talented and I was actually buying a gift for Belinda – shhhh!!  Anyway, in the course of the conversation, I talked about my desire to have another sewing machine and all of the ideas that were floating in my head.  Milissa said “wait a minute” and sent her significant other out to the car.  He returned with a Brother LS2125 sewing machine, the same one that I had been looking at and used to own.  When I offered to pay her for it, her response was “it has only been sitting in my car so I am glad that someone can use it”.  Yes, the tears started to flow.  Milissa was a little concerned that she had done something wrong to make me cry.  The truth was, they were tears of joy.  Her random act of kindness was such an overwhelming gesture that words could not describe my gratitude.  After tears and hugs, I thanked her and then proceeded to share HER AWESOME WORK with everyone.  Now,  I am not going to post her website here because it was “a random act of kindness” but she knows who she is as do the few others that witnessed this generosity.  This was definitely a God moment for me….

Thank you Milissa for your generosity.  Your simple act of kindness though insignificant to you helped me tremendously over the weekend.  A blessing received from you will turn into an opportunity for me to bless others.

Have you ever been the recipient of a “random act of kindness”?  Share with us the difference it made in YOUR life.

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!
