I love when I finally get what God is trying to tell me….I woke up this morning feeling a little different. Yes, I had slept past the 5:30AM alarm but I was not stressed about it. When I did my devotions, I was ready to hear what God had to say to me and really LISTEN!
First, John Maxwell spoke TO ME! Okay, so he talks via video every morning to millions of people but THIS morning, he was talking just to me. This simple sentence “Live and model who you WANT to be and you will become that person”. SMACK!
Then, I got to Devotions for Dieters,
Matthew 7:7-8: ‘Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.’
The story that went with it is what moved me…. let’s see if you can fill in the blanks for yourself:
(YOUR name) never really believed that (YOUR goal). That was probably his/her problem. His/her heart was never in it. Whenever he/she got the least bit discouraged, he’d immediately give up. His friends tried to offer support, but (YOUR name) always came up with excuses why he/she should give up (YOUR goal). If we want to (YOUR goal), we need to believe in ourselves. Self-doubt is a killer. If we lack faith in ourselves, then perhaps we can overcome it by the faith we have in God. God can fill us with a self-assurance that allows us to do almost anything we set our minds to. Push aside doubt. Be filled with the confidence of God.
Another SMACK in the head! I wasn’t looking for the third smack because JUST FOR TODAY, I got it. I have always know that I am my own worst enemy. I remember in detox and rehab, that is why the counselors said they were NOT as hard on me as they were on others. I could beat myself up enough for my past mistakes or things that I didn’t do, I didn’t need any help from anyone else.
It takes faith the size of a mustard seed to believe in what it is possible. That same seed filled with self-doubt can grow at the same pace just as well. Which seed would you rather plant – the one of faith or the one of self-doubt?
Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!
