Now you “collectively” are Christ’s body and “individually” you are members of it, each party severally and distant (each with his own place and function). 1Corinthians12:17
While I was doing devotions this week, “NewDay, New You” by Joyce Meyer, this touched my heart.
We wonder, What am I to do with my life? What is my purpose here? Does have a calling on my life? God answers these questions through our natural gifts and abilities. He leads us to our purpose through the natural skills and unique talents He bestows upon us. God-given gifts are the skills a person easily performs without formal training. We derive great pleasure from doing what we are naturally good at doing…..
If you aren’t sure of your purpose, just do what you do well, and then watch God confirm you by blessing your endeavors. Don’t spend your life trying to do what you are not gifted to do.
I encourage you to look at what you enjoy, what you’re good at, what God is giving you grace to do – and then let God be your God in your life…Trust His ability in and through you and don’t be afraid to be unique.
This was just an excerpt of the entire devotion but it hit HOME for me. When Doubtful Debbie comes knocking on my door, I start to wonder. There was a time when I would say, “I don’t have any skills” but thankfully Jody has helped me see the blessings that I have been given. The TWO natural skills that I am confident about for the moment are: writing along with encouraging and supporting people as they work through their problems (in essence, a good listener).
I have to be honest, I never really thought of these as skills that I could make a living from. Wait! I was a Grant Writer and YES, I did make money from that. I was a Social Worker and God blessed me by providing for me (and my staff) when we struggled through tough times. When I worked in both of these capacities, I helped myself AND others.
Negative Nellie is knocking on the door…. so, that means that you need to go back to work for someone else AND stop trying to have your own business? NO!!! I don’t believe that is what God wants me to do. Can you tell that isn’t in my plan either? It is time to take my known natural talents and apply them to my current goals. The two can definitely work together fulfilling God’s plan for me.
Do you struggle like this? Are you wondering what your natural skills and talents are? Are you working at a JOB that you hate wishing for something more?
I want you to take a few minutes to write down the things that you are good at – the tasks, the hobbies, or whatever it is. Now, think about your current job – are you using any of those skills. If not, that could be why you are unhappy or dreading Monday mornings. I am not saying quit your job but I am saying that you need to find time to do those things that enhance your natural skills and talents. This is not where you make a list of all of the reasons why you CAN’T do this. Make a list of how you can incorporate those natural skills and talents into your daily life and see what a difference it makes.
I would love to hear from you, use the contact form below so we can connect..
Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!
