Faith – Take Action

Sundays are again for me a day of rest and reflection (or at least that is my goal) .  It is a time for me to recharge my battery for the week ahead – mentally, physically and spiritually.

The other night, I was asked “what do you have faith in?”.  The question was asked during a discussion about the medical profession and how we have faith in others yet little faith in those who love us.  It reminded me of a devotion from one of my Celebrate and Connect meetings. Thirty One’s bi-monthly consultant meeting/ training.

Hebrews 11:1

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.”

What does faith mean to you?

  • Faith in Electric Company. Proof? Flip the switch! Faith confirmed. Can you all agree with me unless you FLIP the switch it’d not going anywhere for you?
  • Faith in the Water Department? Proof? Turn the nozzle! Faith confirmed.  Can you all agree unless you turn on the faucet water will not drip from the spout?
  • Faith in your Car Keys? Proof? Turn the key in the ignition! Faith confirmed.  Can you all agree unless you put the key in the ignition and turn the key your car will not go anywhere?
  • Faith in that alarm clock? Proof? It woke you up this morning! Faith confirmed.  Can you all agree with me unless you SET the alarm, it will not wake you up?

Faith without works is dead. We can all have faith…but unless you work to get what you want…it’s dead.

I ENCOURAGE you all: Let’s FLIP our SWITCH. TURN ON our Faucets. Put the KEY in the Ignition. & SET our alarm clocks.  We CAN GET INTO ACTION in our business and make our dreams come alive.

God has a plan for you and no matter who your Higher Power is or what you call him – you need to do the footwork.  What does faith mean to you?  What do you have faith in?  Are you ready to follow the plan of your Higher Power even if you don’t know what the results will be?

As for me, I will reflect on my faith today so that I can hopefully listen and act on God’s plan for me in the upcoming week.  Rest, Recharge and get ready for the week…

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

The Mustard Seed of Faith

Unknown

Thank you Mary Southerland for today’s message…..

He (Jesus) replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustardseed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” ~ Matthew 17:20, NIV

I am not a quitter! What some might call stubbornness, I prefer to call perseverance – especially when it comes to growing flowers and plants.

We recently downsized and moved to a house with a small wooden deck in the back yard. I took one look at that deck and could almost hear it crying out for beautiful plants spilling over the edges of brightly colored ceramic planters. My stubbornness … uh, perseverance … kicked in, and I thought, “I can do this!”

I headed to the local nursery where they know me. And by “know me” I mean they understand that I can kill just about any living plant known to mankind.

Linda greeted me with a smile. Linda and I have become friends over the years as I have tried to grow various plants and flowers. She is well aware of my limitations in the world of plants, and is so sweet about it. When I explained what I wanted for the deck, Linda smiled and said, “Follow me.”

When we reached the section of plants and seeds labeled “Hardy” I could feel my confidence kick in. A beautiful display of plants, trees and packages of seeds greeted me. Linda began to explain what she thought would work best as she picked out several starter packs of Peonies and Daylilies, explaining that it is nearly impossible to kill either one. I was only half-listening. The display of seeds had caught my eye. Actually one packet of seeds grabbed my attention. It was the mustard seed. I began to read the information on the back of the packet. I didn’t actually want to plant the seeds, but I was fascinated by how small they were. They were tiny!

And then I remembered what Jesus said in the Bible about the mustard seed.
Matthew 13:31-32 “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

Wow! The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds, but it grows … and keeps growing. It can become a plant or even a tree. It all depends on how much it is fed and watered. The same is true of our faith.

Scripture tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. When we hear those words, we assume the Bible is describing the kind of faith we read about in the lives of the disciples as they healed the sick, made the blind to see, and performed miracles in the name of Jesus. It is! But that faith began with a tiny seed – a seed as small as a mustard seed.

Jesus tells us that we don’t need a lot of faith to produce great results. We just need to be sure where that faith is planted. And once planted, it will grow if we faithfully feed and water it.

Don’t miss this truth! When our faith rests in God alone, we can and should expect incredible results.

Hebrews 11:1 (ICB) “Faith means being sure of the things we hope for. And faith means knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.”

Faith is built upon trust. God wants us to trust Him in the ordinary moments of every day life and when the storms of life knock us to our knees.

God wants us to trust Him – to have faith in Him – even when we do not understand what is happening and life seems unfair. Even when nothing makes sense and the plan seems totally wrong.

God did not come to eliminate the storms of life. God came to fill each storm with His presence. It is easy to trust Him when the seas of life are calm and the skies are clear. The true strength of our faith is measured in the midst of a raging storm.

A crisis always reveals what is really inside. What life does to us depends on what life finds in us. Faith is a deliberate choice to believe God, to walk through our fear, knowing we can trust Him.

And all it takes is faith the size of a mustard seed.

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

EMBRACE

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!  My word for 2014 is EMBRACE.  By definition, the word embrace means “to accept willingly and enthusiastically; welcoming with open arms; including as a consistent part of“.  I have prayed for a word all week and each time, this word kept coming up.  I kept tossing it aside for something MORE.  Looking for that word that would fit what I thought a WORD OF THE YEAR should be.  Guess God had a different plan for me.  I needed to EMBRACE this word.  I am beginning to think that this is the next step after last year’s word which was FAITH.  When I was looking for a Bible verse that went along with this word, Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen; kept coming to mind.  I thought this was only about FAITH but don’t you need to EMBRACE what we believe, right?

This year, my goal is to EMBRACE all of the blessings that God has in store for me.  EMBRACING them BEFORE they happen having FAITH that they will.  This is the year that I EMBRACE the me that everyone else sees – confident, thinner, and some might even say fun.  I will EMBRACE my role as a Director and have FAITH that when God is ready, I will promote to Senior Director with Thirty One.  I will EMBRACE the challenges as blessings without a visit from Doubtful Debbie or Negative Nellie.  I will EMBRACE change as my business and team grow.

When doubts and trials creep in, I will rely on my FAITH to keep me strong.   I know that as I EMBRACE each challenge as a blessing, my light will shine and inspire others.  I will EMBRACE change in whatever form it comes – business, personal or professional.  I will EMBRACE the suggestions of others as I grow my business and not simply discount them as “not my style”.  I am eager to EMBRACE the positive me, the one who not only talks a good talk but walks it too.  See, despite what many see on the outside, on the inside a Scared Sally lurks.  This is my year to combine the doubtful, the negative and the scared into one EMBRACING the woman that will emerge for all of the world to see.

What is YOUR word for this year and what does it mean to you?  Please share with us as you may inspire others to toss aside the list of New Year’s Resolutions for one word that will be their focus.

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

Get into Action

Sundays for me (or at least that is my goal) is a day of rest and reflection.  It is a time for me to recharge my battery for the week ahead – mentally, physically and spiritually.

On Friday night, I had the opportunity to co-host a Celebrate and Connect (Thirty One’s bi-monthly consultant meeting/ training).  There I was able to connect with old friends while making some new ones.    This is part of the devotion that I started with as our theme was “Get into Action”

Hebrews 11:1
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.”

  • Faith in your Car Keys? Proof? Turn the key in the ignition! Faith confirmed.  Can you all agree that unless you put the key in the ignition and turn that key your car will not go anywhere?
  • Faith in that alarm clock? Proof? It woke you up this morning! Faith confirmed.  Can you all agree with me unless you SET the alarm, it will not wake you up?

Faith without works is dead. We can all have faith…but unless you work to get what you want…it’s dead.

The V-8 Moment

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”  Hebrews 11:1

WOW!  I feel like I have been in a “V-8” commercial the last few days.  You know the one where the person hits themselves on the forehead and says “should have had a V-8”.  The only difference is that God is asking me “Do you truly BELIEVE and have FAITH to walk the path that I have set aside for you?  Powerful questions that really got me to thinking about the alternate routes that I have been taking over the last several months…

I believe that there is a plan for all of us and despite the fact that we may veer off the road, we will get to the ultimate destination if we truly trust and believe.  Having had the V-8 moment on Saturday, went to Church on Sunday only to hear that the sermon was on FAITH!  I was definitely in the right place.  Pastor said a few things that really hit home:

  • It is not a matter of what we say we believe but what we do that indicates what we truly believe.  I need to not only talk about the walk but I need to walk the walk.
  • What we truly believe effects the way in which we live our life.  If we truly believe and have faith, we will not bail out when the going gets tough.
The last thing was his “department store” story.  Faith is like a department store.  First you have to enter in the building or make a conscience decision to have faith in a higher power.  Once you have made that choice, you check out all that is offered on the ground floor before you are ready to move up to the next floor or grow deeper in your faith.  See there is always more to learn and understand if we are only willing to grow.  Sometimes though we get stuck on a floor and are not willing to grow – this is me lately – stuck on a floor because of FEAR.

My two biggest struggles: 1) reaching my goal weight and 2) becoming successful in my direct sales business.

Over a year ago, I left my full-time job with the goal of having a thriving direct sales business and not ever going back to work for someone else again.  In January, a touch of fear hit me and instead of praying, believing or having faith – I took a part time job.  I enjoy the people and it is only 1 or 2 nights a week but the reality is that it is just a crutch for me.  The nights that I used to work my business with training, customer calls, etc. is now spent at a part-time job.  The only nights that I am actually off are when I have booked parties/ events or when my hubby is off.  Let me tell you this was definitely a V-8 moment.

So what alternate route are you taking?  Do you have reasons/ excuses why you needed to veer off the path, heading in another direction for the moment?  Acknowledge those FEARS and find FAITH in your higher power BELIEVING that he will bring you through whatever it is you are afraid of.

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day.
