How To Get Organized and Be Happy!

From storage cubes and caddies to soft-textured bins and baskets, we have home organization solutions to help turn cluttered spaces into pleasant places to spend time working and relaxing. It doesn’t take much time at all, just a little planning and a little shopping at mythirtyone.com!

As  they say, work before pleasure, so let’s get to work and organize your home office space first.

Without the proper storage and organization solutions, papers supplies and other office materials can start to run rampant. Even shelves become disorganized.

Make your workspace wonderfully organized

Working from home is common these days for adults and kids, so make sure your workspace is clutter-free and manageable. Our home office organization solutions are a great way to set you and your family up for success.

Just a few caddies and bins can keep your office space organized and efficient. The colorful prints and personalization designs available on our storage solutions add style and personality to your desk and shelves. A fun pop of color on the wall can bring a boring space to life.

No file drawer? No problem! The Fold N’ File®  is a portable file box specially made for holding everything from tax filings and receipts to bills and insurance forms. For kids, it’s a great place to keep all their tests and papers from school neatly organized by class and subject.

The Double Duty® Caddy and Deluxe Double Duty® Caddy keep office and school supplies together and at the ready. With lots of pockets and compartments, they’re the ideal storage caddies for pens, pencils, scissors, notebooks, rulers and all those desk top necessities.

Don’t cram your desk drawers full of all those office supply essentials, like little containers and boxes of paper clips, staples, tape, sticky notes and push pins – keep them in a Felt Storage Bin. These handy little storage bins don’t take up much desk or shelf space and they’re perfect for personalization with a monogram or statement.

The Your Way® Cube and Your Way® Rectangle provide convenient storage options for any home office environment. Ideal for storing important contracts, forms and records, or larger office needs like printer paper, computer cords and adapters, instruction manuals, reference materials and more. And when you purchase the Your Way® Cube Lid or Your Way® Rectangle Lid, they become stackable storage containers for all your non-disposable essentials.

Create a cozy corner just for you

If you’ve ever dreamed of having your very own room to craft, relax, read or sew but don’t have the luxury of that extra space in your home, we have a simple solution for you. So, gather up those things you love and find a corner in your house to make your own – we’ll take it from there!

That oversized chair and ottoman in the family room is a great place to put your feet up and relax, and the floor lamp next to it make it the perfect reading nook. Claim that chair for your own and create a cozy reading space! Load up all those cozy comforts in a Felt Display Bin – blanket, slippers, books, reading glasses a bottle of vino, a glass and a corkscrew – and keep it tucked away under the end table or next to the chair for easy access whenever you’re ready for your next chapter.

That sofa in the den is a quiet place the kids never use. Stake your claim and make it your personal knitting nook. Flip on the TV or the stereo and chill out as you complete your latest creation. The Felt Storage Bin with that embroidered “R” is the perfect choice to hold all your yarn and knitting needles, plus it lets everyone know this is mom’s turf now.

So, you just got into crafting. Sounds fun! Now all you need is a place to enjoy your new hobby. What about the breakfast nook in the kitchen or that swivel chair and table in the guest room? Wherever you make your creative space, be sure you’ve got everything you need ready and waiting for you when inspiration hits. The Canvas Storage Caddy is a great craft storage solution with lots of pockets around the outside and a large open space inside. Personalize it with something befitting of your new interest… how about “Craft Queen”?

Do You Have A Routine When You Work?

monday morning Does your Monday look like this?

Worker-on-Monday Or is this how you look this morning?

I have to be honest, despite working from home, my Monday mornings can go either way.

When I take time to plan out my week and schedule all of the things I have to do – I am ready to conquer the world.  When I wait till the morning to get things scheduled for the day, I am a hot mess who is unable to stick to a routine.  I squirrel towards the next shining object and then get frustrated when nothing seems to be getting done.

Here are 5 simple steps to help you get a little bit more motivated while working from home:

1. Set Working Hours

Decide on what your working hours will be, and stick to them!  This one is really tough for me.  Hubby is off on Monday and Tuesdays PLUS he works the 4 – 12midnight shift.  It means he is home during the day and has his own plan for the day.  I set my alarm for the same time Monday to Friday and stick to a morning routine as if I was going to work (out of the house).  I have found when I stick to a schedule of early office hours, a break to do things with hubby and then back in the office in the afternoon – life is so much better.  I love starting my work day at the same time every day!

2. Use A Planner

unknown

Plan out your week using a planner – either on your phone or a hard copy. I need paper when it comes to this.  Hubby bought me a Passion Planner and I absolutely LOVE it.  Lots of room for notes, scheduling appointments daily and setting goals.  I have daily to-do lists so you have a clear sense of what needs doing and get started on tasks immediately.  Having a planner and planning out my time has been a giant stress reliever.  It also helps to give your work days and week structure, while working from home!

3. Create A Workspace

Okay, so I don’t work from bed but I will admit to being in my sweats. I get shower and have my coffee just like I would if I had an office job.  I take the “commute” down to my office.  It is important to create a space in your home  – your own personal “workspace”. Even if it is your living room table or a desk in your bedroom! Set aside space solely for work and nothing else!  Set it up like you would a cubby or office with motivational quotes and make it pretty.

4. Leave The House

It’s unhealthy to stay at home all day and not get some fresh air. So get up every couple of hours to take a work break – make yourself some tea and scroll through Instagram. Take your lunch break out of the house too. Even if you make food at home, pack it up and eat it outside to take a step away from your desk for a change of scenery.  This is one I am working on.  I would have to say my work break is having lunch with hubby every day.

5. Socialize

Do you feel isolated working from home?  With no kids to taxi around, I have found “girl time” is more important than ever.  After-work drinks aren’t as easy when there’s no one to go with from work!  So organize some social meetups post work with friends. Whether they work from home or not, socializing after work is a must. Cocktails? Yes please, always!

Talk in Front of a Group? YIKES!

2015-04-24 16.00.50 HDR

My Throwback Thursday picture is with the AMAZING Mark Miller during our tour of Home Office.

As a Director with Thirty One, you would think that I enjoy public speaking – WRONG!  I have always said “I’m not good at speaking in front of groups” or “I don’t like to talk in front of people”.  Guess what – the Universe heard “good at speaking in front of groups” and “like talking in front of people”.  So, I am asked to speak to groups a lot.  PLUS, I am in the home party business which means I talk in front of people all of the time.  Crazy, right?  I learned that from the amazing book The Secret.  If you haven’t read it – you need to.

So, I have been working on my speaker voice because I am in the party plan business and guess what, we need to talk in front of people.  So, here are some tips that I picked up along with way that helped me:

1. Build your confidence.

I know you are thinking, if I was confident I wouldn’t mind speaking in front of people, right?  So, the question is do believe that you are good in what you do? Do you believe in your product and/or your company’s mission statement?  If so, share your passion.  It may not look like someone else’s presentation.  It may not have games.  It is YOU being YOU and sharing with your heart.  I have an outline that I follow so that I don’t forget things because I can easily squirrel but it depends on the group how things flow.  I love the products.  I LOVE the company. I love the change that it made in my life.  So, the only thing I needed to do to gain more confidence was practice.

2. Look at yourself on the mirror.

This is a tough one for me.  I think video taping is better so that you can watch what you are doing at the end.  Professional speakers will tell you that if you want to improve your speaking skills, then you should practice in front of the mirror. Whether it is in front of a mirror or in a video, you want to see how you look while doing your talk. Then you can see whether you need to improve your stance, the way you open your mouth, and the expression of your eyes.

3. Listen to yourself.

“Practice makes perfect”, right?  Well, we don’t need perfection but you want your your audience to have a pleasant experience listening and watching you, right?   You should also listen to your voice.  Is it too loud?  Is it too soft?  Do you sound confident in your product and your company?  Practicing your speech countless times can help. Record your voice, and then listen to it, so that you can really hear how your voice sounds to your audience.  This is why I like a video so that you can capture both the visual and the verbal.

The most important thing is to be yourself and let YOUR light shine.  People can tell when we are not being try to ourselves.  “Fake it till you make it” is a great way to play a “part” while you are gaining that confidence.  It doesn’t mean not being true to yourself, it just means playing the role of confident presenter until you feel the confidence.

Keep bringing your special voice to your customers and the people around you.

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

Talk is Cheap

Are you good at what you do?  Do people compliment you on your skills?  What happens when a customer makes an unscheduled visit to your office?  Do they find a HOT MESS?  Are they going to remember how AWESOME you are or what your office looked like?

In other words: appearances matter.

Do you always meet deadlines?  Do you do everything that you tell your customers you will do?  Are you routinely late – just a few minutes every time you meet?

Customers notice (and judge you).

Do you want people to rely on you for your expertise?  It doesn’t matter if it is in your direct sales business or in your career, your customers WANT to rely on you.  They want to count on you as the expert and feel like you are in control when you are interacting together.  They want their perception of you to be TRUE.

What would your customers see if they could pull back a curtain and see how you handle your business?  Would they be impressed by your organization and your systems?  Would they be running for the hills because you don’t practice what you preach?  Would they want to be “just like you” or would they be looking for a new consultant?

I have to admit, on some days my office AND business are a “hot mess“.  Papers scattered everywhere, not sure what to do next and jumping 10 steps ahead instead of staying in the moment.

Talk is cheap.”  You need to walk the walk.  Okay, for those of us in direct sales it may seem like it doesn’t matter.  I mean how many times will our customers or hostesses see “behind the scenes”.  When was the last time one of them made an unexpected visit to your home, right?  The truth is to be your BEST YOU, you need to look and feel good.  I don’t know about you but I definitely don’t feel good when I am hunting for things in my office.  My confidence level wains when my office is a hot mess.

So, how many of you said “get organized” for a New Year’s Resolution?  Do you feel like you are any more organized now then you were at the end of last year?

It’s time for action.

Quit talking about how “busy” you are and actually get some important sh!t done?

Take action and make decisions with integrity in every area, professionally and personally?

Up your business game (not just improve your game-face)?

Are you ready for the challenge?  Are you ready to walk the walk and not just “TALK the TALK”? Share with us your next step..

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

Are You Organized

I read a quote by a fellow blogger, Cheryl Richardson who is a spirituality and self-help author.  Does this sound like your office (or house):

“Stuff has tentacles. Every pile of paper, cluttered counter, or disorganized closet is filled with items that have cords attached to them. These cords reach out and suck the energy from us whether we’re near the stuff or not.”

I don’t know about you but I would have to agree with her, at least in my office. When my office is cluttered, I can’t think or make calls, or work.  I know a great excuse NOT to pick up the 500lb. phone, right?

What if you could CUT those tentacles?  What if you could purge all of the stuff out of your office (or your home) that doesn’t matter to you.  I have written about Belinda’s saying when I used to get in those “clean moods“.  “Watch out, mom will toss you out if you aren’t attached or have a purpose”.  The truth is when I was done, I functioned so much better.  Some would say it is feng shui.  Others might say I am a nut case. Either way, organization helps us to stay focused and on track.

Here are some options to those organizational problems in your home or your office:

The Your Way Junior Cube, Your Way Cub and the Your Way Rectangle all have lids which can be added to your purchase.  I love that our cubes are solid for personalization on one side while the other side has a clear opening so you can actually see what is inside.  Wouldn’t it be great to just turn the cubes around and put the lid on when company comes to visit?

As for your office, the Fold N File can be placed inside our Zip Top Organizing Tote so that you now have a mobile office.  No need to transfer only a few files to another bag – take the whole thing with you.

What if you touched each piece of paper (or email) only ONCE?  I know, crazy right?  The truth is it is possible.  I used this system for years in the non-profit (and corporate) world.  It made life so easy.  I am not sure why I have such a problem in my home office.

This year is my year of systems and organization….I have cubes in the bedroom to keep things organized.  My office looks great with all of the organization products, now it is time to implement the systems I have borrowed from some of my Thirty One sisters.

What will help you get organized this year?  Not sure if our products will meet your needs – how about a product experience.  A NO obligation one hour consultation.  You get to try the products to see if they will meet your needs.  If they do, I will help you find the best deal for you.  If not, it is okay – I will be grateful for the chance to meet some new people and share the gift of Thirty One.

So, who is ready to get organized?  Fill out the contact form and let’s get started.
