The Comfort Zone

I used to have a comfort zone, where I knew I couldn’t fail;

The same four walls and busy work were really more like jail.

I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before,

But, I stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much,

I said I didn’t care for diamonds, rings, and such.

I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,

But deep inside I longed for something special all my own!

I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win

I held my breath and stepped outside to let the change begin!!

I took a step and with new strength, I’d never felt before,

I kissed my comfort zone good-bye, and closed and locked the door!!

If you are in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out

Remember that all winners, at one time were filled with doubt!

A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true!

Greet your future with a smile and Success is there for you!!

I have to admit, I can be a creature of habit.  I invest in new trainings, buy into new ideas and in theory they are all wonderful.  The truth is, they don’t work unless you put them to work. It is like the doctor giving you medicine to cure something, you leave it in the box and you remain sick.  I “want to but” seems to hang on my tongue.  “What will people think?” rings in my head.  REALLY!!!  I stepped out of my comfort zone in the past and success surrounded me.  About 18 months, someone’s simple statement sent me back into a tailspin of self-doubt, fear, insecurity along with Doubtful Debbie.

Today, as I put my holiday parties from my business to rest and gear up for the New Year, I am filled with awe and wonder.  Ready to step out of my comfort zone.  Ready to explore new territories.  Ready to claim the blessings that are mine.

Who is ready to step outside of their comfort zone and join me?

Party Favors

At breakfast the other morning, hubby and I were talking about my business.  I was having one of those days – you know the kind when you feel like everything you try isn’t working.  Doubtful Debbie knocked on the door and I opened it just a crack. What I should have done was SLAM the door.

We talked about the differences between my business now versus my first 18 months.  Okay, so now it is my full-time income then it was just a hobby.  I worked during the week and had weekends for vendor events (as an attendee or to visit them).  BINGO!  The last one is really what hit the nail on the head.  I  need a new way to reach out to the many people that I used to connect with at vendor events now that I work part-time on the weekends.  Social media is okay but I really like the personal touch of face to face contact.

Thank you to the Party Plan Divas for this next idea.  Every day people are holding baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, etc. – events where they make up goodie bags for their guests, right?  Now, I am not saying that I will supply the entire contents of the goodie bags but I can help out…Thirty One style.

I have bookmarks, recipe cards, candy wrappers, gift tag bags, and lots more all with pretty Thirty One prints.  How about candy with a cute little saying attached to bring a smile for your guests?  What about cupcake toppers?  Water bottles with pretty labels?  What if you were to share your love for your favorite direct sales companies in those gift bags? I know you are thinking… tacky, right?  But think about it..who wouldn’t love some makeup samples or lotion samples or candy with a corny saying attached while at the same time you are helping to promote a friends business. What about the wonderful scents of candles?

Depending on the kind of party and potential guests would dictate what I would donate to the cause.  The only thing I would do is also include a coupon with my business card just in case they loved their little gift.  A minimum cost for something that could change your business.

Be Successful

How do YOU define  success?  According to the dictionary, success is defined as : the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame; and the correct or desired result of an attempt.  I love when someone asks me this question because on any given day, I don’t FEEL successful.  The “no’s” have out numbered the yea’s.  The goals set seem unobtainable.  Satan is having a field day and Doubtful Debbie has crashed in my home.  Here is a fun tip from Party Plan Divas:

Keeping a success journal  will help to motivate you when Doubtful Debbie comes to call.  Takes only 10-15 minutes a day to write down your achievements and the tasks you’ve accomplished. I bet these 15 minutes a day have the power to transform all your life.  I know you are saying – “When do I have 10 minutes to myself?”. Find them – sitting in the car as they fill your gas tank, waiting to pick the kids up from school or an activity or even in the bathroom.  I know that may sound crazy but for some, that is the ONLY place to get a few minutes of peace and quiet.

By writing down your achievements you will be able to feel the progress. You will see how by small steps you’re moving closer and closer to your goal.  Remember that writing things down makes us accountable and keeps us on track.  Just like tracking your food when dieting – a success journal will help you to eliminate temptation.  A Success Journal will also help you to keep Doubtful Debbie and Negative Nellie from paying an unwelcome visit.  Believe it or not, it will help to simplify your life (that is what they say – but I am not so sure about that).

However you should be aware of three rules of keeping a success journal:

1. Write only what you’ve done.  Don’t write what you still haven’t done and what you still have to do tomorrow.  List only accomplished tasks and achievements.  Keep with the POSITIVE and a voice the NEGATIVE.

2. List even small things.  Everything counts! A phone call, an email blast, or your decision to pass by the chocolate cheesecake.  This could help on so many levels.

3. Make it a daily habit.  Don’t skip days! Even if you’re exhausted make sure you write at least 1-2 sentences in your success journal. Even if the only thing you did that day was think about your goal.  In 30 days you wouldn’t possibly be able to live without it.  Remember that it takes 21-days to make it a habit!

So, who is ready to join me in this journey.  I am going to start tonight before I go to sleep to write down 1 or 2 sentences in my success journal.

Recruiting

You have decided that you want to go into Leadership with YOUR direct sales company.  You are excited about this new venture until you realize that in addition to booking and selling at parties, you NOW have to recruit new consultants.  Are your knees starting to shake at the possibility of sharing the business opportunity with someone else?  Do you worry that you will be THAT pushy sales person?  Here is an idea from Party Plan Divas that will definitely make sharing the business opportunity a lot easier for you…  Create a Business Brag Book

Simply put, this is a simple binder full of personal pictures, awards, and thoughts about how your life has been enriched by being a Party Plan Consultant.  Things to Include in your Brag Book:

Your Monthly Bonus checks – I have my first one, and then one from exactly one year later 

Any recognition you have received – from the company, from your sponsor, from ANYONE who has given you a pat on the back! Any awards you have won.

Pictures of any events you have been involved in – Expos, Convention, Regional Trainings, etc. Your first Convention!

Team pictures – Carry a camera everywhere, and when you meet with your team, get someone to take a snapshot!

Who you work for – Nope, not your sponsor – Your FAMILY! Share pictures of any trips you have taken thanks to your business, or simply just spending time with the ones you love – being your own boss is GREAT! 

The Brag Book can be left out while you are taking orders so everyone can flip through. It is also a great way to keep you motivated – even when you get down, flipping through your Brag Book can remind you why you do this business, and how lucky we all really are to have this gift!!!  Click HERE to see a sample brag book from Party Plan Divas!   

I am so excited, I have already started to plan out my brag book to share at my next party AND at vendor events.  We all have those recruiting seeds in our presentation but this is a GREAT way to enhance that seed.  They say that a “picture says a 1,000 words”, right?  Let YOUR pictures tell the story of how YOUR direct sales company changed your life.  It may just be the thing to encourage someone to take that step of faith by joining your company.
