How To Find the Perfect Sunglasses

In your search for the perfect sunglasses, the first thing to ask yourself is “What shape is my face?” Faces come in all different shapes and sizes, and not all sunglasses work with every type of face. Do you have a pronounced chin? An angular jawline? Small, delicate features? Yep, sunglasses were made to help you see, but they were also made to be seen in. Make sure you’re in the style that helps you look your best! (Hint: It’s all about balance!)

Round Face? Avoid circular frames! Angles are better.

If the width of your face is about the same length as its height, then you have a round face. People with round faces tend to have softer, less dramatic features, so they need frames that add angles and definition. Square frames like wayfarers are a good choice, while round shapes should be avoided. Anything which actually mimics the shape of a round face only makes it look even rounder.

Square face? Balance out angular features for a softer look.

Faces considered to be square have strong angles, such as defined jawlines and chins. These types of faces benefit from sunglass shapes which are rounder and softer. Additionally, if you have a large face, you should wear large glasses extending beyond the widest part of your face. This helps with overall proportion.

Heart-shaped face? Tapered frames are the way to go!

If you have a face wider at the top but tapers to a more angular chin, it’s considered to be heart-shaped. Unlike people who have round or square faces, those with heart-shaped faces want to mimic their features in a pair of sunglasses. Frames are typically wider at the top but curve into a narrower teardrop shape tend to look best on heart-shaped faces. Aviators are a good example of this style.

Oval face? Try them all, but keep it in proportion!

If you have an oval face, consider yourself a lucky girl. Oval faces have a great blend of features – not too round, not too square, not too heart-shaped. Any sunglass frame shape can work on you, as long as it isn’t too wide for your face or too big for delicate features. Ideally, the perfect pair of sunglasses will be the same width as your face. If they are wider, they will look out of proportion. The same goes for oval faces with small, fine features. If you have delicate features, frames that are big and chunky will overwhelm your face.

Once you’ve selected the perfect pair of sunglasses, you’ll need a nice carrying case, too! Our Pinch-Top Eyeglass Case has an exterior zipper pocket, a padded interior compartment for safe keeping and a D-ring attachment for a wristlet strap (sold separately). It’s sized to hold your glasses, keys, cell phone and more. Tuck it away inside your favorite Thirty-One purse!

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

Tips for Cleaning Out Your Closet

I think Spring may have finally arrived – some warmer temps opened the door for flip flops and capris.  Of course the dreary days with rain make me wonder…..Through it all, I am ready to purge my closet and pull out some spring clothes. What is even more exciting is I am creeping close to my goal weight which means I will have lots of spring clothes to wear.

Transitioning into a different season is the perfect opportunity to clean out your closet and minimize your items. I’m sure I am not the only on who has clothing pieces from last summer which are probably no longer in style, fit, or didn’t survive being in storage. Why hold on to these things?  The chances of you wearing them is unlikely so it is time to toss and refresh.

1. Take every item out of your closet.  Yup, toss it all in the middle of the floor.  It will look like your closet threw up but it is the only way to make sure you go through and touch every item one-by-one.  The goal is to only put items back in your closet you love.

2. Does it fit badly? A little tight here, too big there so the bottom line is it no longer serves a purpose. Holding on to beautiful or expensive items we love and once fit us is like holding onto the past… let’s look forward. Give them to someone you know will benefit from them.

3. Not worn for a year. If an item has been hanging in your closet untouched for one year, it’s time to say goodbye.  I know you are thinking – it’s seasonal, right?  If you didn’t wear it last season, you probably won’t wear it this season either.

4. Fold jeans in drawers. Jeans should never be hanging in your closet because they take up too much space and will last longer in drawers.  This was a new tidbit for me!  Hubby puts his on the shelf but for a different reason.

5. Time for the new. Old socks and undergarments can be thrown away. Now is a great time to buy clean, new sets.  OR you can hold onto them and use the undergarments when you travel.  After they are worn, toss them – more room in the suitcase when you come home/

6. Tailor now or never. If there are things in your closet you can’t wear because they need tailoring, do it immediately or toss them. If you really loved and wanted to wear them, you would have had tailored it by now.

7. Part with unused gifts. So many people keep items just because they were a gift, even if they don’t like or wear them. The person who bought you the gift would probably prefer someone else wear it, rather than you ignoring it.

8. Limit handbags.  Well, maybe not the number of them just the ones you keep in the closet. Bags take up space.  The rule of thumb is, we only need three bags for our day-to-day lives: a large tote, an evening clutch, and a cross-body bag.  Remember, I have a bag for all of your needs. I will totally disagree with only needing 3 bags but I am the proverbial bag lady, right?  Try to keep bags hung on a hook if possible to maximize space.

9. Minimize. After ridding yourself of all unneeded, unworn, and uncared for items, you will feel lighter, get dressed quicker, and spend less time getting ready.  I also am focusing on certain color pallets so everything goes together.

What is your best tip for organizing your closet?

Does Your Bag Tell Your Personality?

16730250_1559828067365226_1255219296435140682_n

Let’s have some fun…  Did you know someone can tell what type of person you are by the way you carry your bag?  Crazy, right?  Let’s see how spot on these descriptions are for you….

Which one of these are YOU?

article-0-16e10a0b000005dc-197_634x1107-1

THE SCHLEPPER:  You’ve got 2, 3,4 or maybe even 5 bags to worry about so you’ve got a “whatever fits” strategy going on. You’re fatigued, exhausted and in a rush. The bags suggest you’re a little spaced out and have a hard time being present.  Hmmm, maybe a nice Soft Utility Tote would help you feel less overwhelmed.01187dc7c73e421e8295a1f2eb866ac1

THE ARM CROOK HOOK:  Favorites of paparazzi-chased celebs, this limp-handed style just screams power. You are wearing the bag as if it’s a badge of honor or an award. You feel as if you’ve got a sense of superiority.  The Miles of Styles might be the perfect bag for you.8156326a

THE HANDS-FREE:  The girl who wears a hands-free bag willingly covers up her silhouette and outfit. It’s useful, but it also shows you’re slightly dorky. Tends to be a favorite with young women.  The Cafe Crossbody could be the bag for you…stylish, not dorky!

ee823f68752347a19048d3d3b62dac2d

THE TWOFER: usually done with a coy smile and a leg cross, the two-handed twofer clutch denotes a shy, defensive person. This creates a fig leaf position as if you were protecting your goods. If you find yourself doing this on a date, it’s because you feel weird about where it’s going.  The Tons of Funds may be just the one for you…. a one hander or two PLUS you could make it a cross body if you are sometimes a Hands Free kind of gal.81390222

THE BAGUETTE: a recent favorite of street style stars, the baguette style is a scoop-up, on-the-go method. It’s a utilitarian look and you don’t really care about the bag but rather what’s in it. You are goal oriented.  How about the Little Dreamer?da202e8d564943ca82cda6fbe9ca2fd4

So ladies, which one are you…I am usually a cross between the “arm crook hook”, the “baguette” and occasionally the “handsfree” depending on the day. I am not sure  I agree with all of these descriptions so please don’t shoot the messenger.

The next time you pick up YOUR bag, think about the message you are sending….

How to Use a Key FOB

15492430_10157996432940220_4274787403261287329_n-1Happy Monday!

The Monday before Christmas when all through the house…..

How would you finish this sentence?  Is it the calm before the storm?  Are you on the hunt for your keys?  Are you excited to be escaping to work to avoid the mess at home?  Are you still trying to figure out what to get for people? Or are you done with holiday shopping and ready to get organized in the new year?

Today is about a simple inexpensive solution to some every day challenges…

Thirty One’s Key FOB is so much more than just a key chain.  Yes, it is perfect for your keys because you can hook them onto your purse or on a tote when you go shopping.   Or hang them on a hook when you come in the house.  Or slip it on your wrist so you don’t drop them when you are carrying lots of things. BUT have you every thought what else you could use it for?img_0564

Have you ever entered a public bathroom and there was no hook on the door for your purse?  The moment when you can’t figure out what you are going to do.  I HATE putting my bag on the floor – why not use a key fob?2728e237e1312b943ad88a27b3959f11

Even if your keys are on the ring, you can still use it.

I know it is a little cold for the beach BUT for some it is never too early to plan (or dream of warmer weather).  Use your Key FOB to hold your beach bag up off the sand.993005_10201146835493588_1487965717_n

Do you have hair ties all over the house but can never find one when you need it?  Enter Thirty One’s Key FOB.15350673_10157990540680220_59723519602815727_n

Going grocery shopping – child in the seat and the basket full of groceries?  Use your key fob to  hold your Essential Storage Tote or other reusable grocery bags.  Or use it to hold your purse or diaper bag.

Do you spend a lot of time in the car?  Ever had to stop short and your purse topples to the floor, contents all over?  I’ve had it happen more than once and occasionally something will roll under the seat and I won’t know it until I go to find it later on.  Use a key fob or two to attach your purse to the head rest to create a no spill solution.  15439902_10157990546665220_7830337468885004380_n

I love this one but it would definitely NOT work for the fur grand babies we have – they are way too big.  Walk two dogs at the same time without having two leashes to get them tangled up in.

One of my customer’s favorite uses for a Key FOB is as a gift for a teacher or coach.  A simple gesture to let someone know you appreciate all they do for you.

So a key fob is so much more than just a keychain.  It has a multitude of uses and here is a list of 31 uses:

East West or North South

Happy Friday…. are you doing the “happy dance”?  I am for so many reasons. Does today’s title make you curious?  I will be honest, I don’t have much of a sense of direction anymore.  I’m sure my daughter would say I never did but there was a time when I could navigate my way any place I wanted to go.

Well, today is really about your purse selection.  Yes, purses come in East-West and North-South.  Think about it…

15380385_10157852374050704_3887477100121763944_n

Look at the current bag you are carrying and you will be able to tell what kind of girl you are.  Yes, the shape of your bag will tell you.  Believe it or not, it will tell me a lot about which Thirty One products you will like.

Let’s take two of our most popular bags…the Zip Top Organizing tote (bottom right corner) and the Tall Organizing Tote (in the middle). Do you know the difference between them?  Yes, they are different prints,  Yes, they are different styles.  Yes, they have different skus.  But the real difference is their direction.  Yes, I said direction.

Is the shape of your current bag – tall or wide?  For me, my go to is the Around Town Tote – yup, it it a North South bag.  I use a variety of bags but I find I am drawn to the North South bags.2226b73d1da9d1f4b004fa8877cba731

Which do you prefer?

If you (or your customer) doesn’t love a certain style, show her another style.  I actually tried this out and found I was showing them the wrong bag.  I showed a  North-South bag and she was an East-West kind of gal! Now, I ask what kind of bag they like BEFORE I start to show them one.  Or better yet, ask to see the bag they are carrying right now.

The North- South gals are going to LOVE the January customer special.  For just $10 – you will be able to get the Tall Organizing Tote with a $35 purchase. A shout out to all nurses and teachers who are not a huge fan of the Zip Top Organizing Tote. Students love it, moms adore it, and crafters swear by it! 15337615_10208114640560856_6749432495466297696_n

So, what kind of girl are you? North-South or East-West?  Want to see your bag options based on the kind of girl you are, let me know…

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!
