Clear the Clutter, Relax, Reflect, Recharge

How To Spend Your Me-Time

Thank you Thirty One for today’s tips…

The kids are off from school this week and maybe you will be able to grab a few minutes of ME TIME.  The ever elusive “me-time” is the key to great self-care. Even 15 minutes per day doing something just for you will go a long way toward keeping you mentally strong and healthy so that you can give your all to your family and career.

Depending on what you enjoy, how much time you have or even the kind of day you’ve had, me-time can look different from day to day. But one thing’s for certain: Me-time will help you rest and recharge both physically and emotionally. Here are five fun and easy ideas to try for meaningful me-time this month.

1. Write in your journal

Taking some time to write in a pretty journal (like our beautiful Keepsake Journal) is a great way to reflect on your day, express gratitude or plan out your intentions for the day, week or month. If something is troubling you, try writing about it. It may help you let go of the problem or come up with a better solution.

2. Take a bubble bath

A nice hot soak with your favorite bubbles or bath salts will have you feeling relaxed in no time. Add in a fun novel to top it off. To make things even more relaxing, fill a Double Duty Caddy with beauty essentials like a facial mask, scented moisturizer and some nail polish to indulge in an at-home spa treatment afterward.

3. Treat yourself to lunch

Head to your favorite coffee shop or restaurant to enjoy a peaceful lunch all by yourself. Have fun people watching while you’re there – and why not order dessert, too? Choose a restaurant within walking distance to get the added benefit of some fresh air and exercise.

4. Dance to some great tunes

Dancing is fun, therapeutic and great exercise. Put on some songs you haven’t heard in a while and dance like nobody’s watching! Besides being a great mood booster, dancing on a regular basis can help improve your physical fitness.

5. Get your craft on!

There’s just something about losing yourself in a crafting project – maybe with your favorite movie playing in the background and some yummy snacks – that can be oh, so satisfying. Grab your Get Creative Carry-All packed up with your knit or crochet project to amp up the fun and relaxation!

One way to give yourself more freedom to indulge in me-time is to control your own work schedule. How to Feel Smarter and Stronger

It is officially SUMMER!  That is what the calendar says, right?  The kids are out of school. We have heard for years that we are all becoming “coach potatoes”, right?  The more technology, the busier we get, the busier we get, the less time we spend enjoying nature and the great outdoors.  Funny, I always thought that it would be the opposite.

Did you not that there are REAL health benefits from spending time in nature.  I don’t mean just opening the sun roof to your car and absorbing the sun.  I mean taking a walk or sitting outside and just breathing in the fresh air.

There are awesome environmental benefits that are provided by trees and other plants. BUT do you take advantage of the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits available from nature?

Did you know that, “people today spend up to 25 percent less time enjoying nature than people did just 20 years ago.”

Remember how you felt after you took a break and spent a few minutes outside?  Didn’t you come back energized and ready to conquer the next challenge?  Statistics have shown that people that walked through an arboretum performed 20% better in memory and attention tests then those that walked on a busy street.  Okay, so maybe there isn’t an arboretum outside your home or office BUT there is probably a park close by.  Studies show that long stretches in nature have resulted in dramatic increases in our creativity and problem solving skills. Nature also improves our mood, and  generosity.

Here are some of the other benefits from being out in nature:

  • Regain physical energy
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Reduce muscle tension
  • Decrease stress hormones
  • Heighten immunity
  • Lower heart rate
  • Decrease blood pressure
  • Better cholesterol

Why does all of this work?  Because we are actually programmed to spend time relaxing and resting, especially in natural environments.  We are meant to spend a substantial amounts of time outdoors so we can experience our Creator and restore our spirits.

A long walk, gardening, sitting by the ocean — any activity let us disconnect from the crazy and get reconnected to our hearts is a plus mentally, physically and spiritually.  Nature is God’s reset button for our minds, bodies, and spirits. If you’re spending all day indoors, you’re missing the restorative power of nature.

How much time do you spend outdoors each week?

Your Happiness Trigger

Happiness is what we all want, right?  To be happy and have harmony in our life.  I never say “balance”.  It makes me feel like it is always one thing or the other instead of my life melting together in harmony.

Valerie Burton is all about being “Unstuck and Unstoppable”.  She has an AWESOME “Happiness Test” that asks a series of questions and at the end you find out what YOUR personal happiness triggers are.

You are thinking “I know what makes me happy”, right?  Spending time with my kids, seeing family, my job, travel, friends, etc.  I am sure the list goes on because for me I thought I knew too.  The truth was that on the surface these are the things that make us happy but deep down what is the core “trigger” for that happiness.

There are two categories of happiness triggers – personal and power.  The top Personal Triggers  are the things that you should nurture, finding new ways to use them more often to boost your happiness level.  These are the triggers that you are unique to your personality and lifestyle.  Here are my top 3:

Service
Key decision: “Every day, I do at least one thing to brighten someone else’s day.”
Service is a habit and genuine enjoyment of serving other people.

Anticipation
Key decision: “Every day, I make sure I have something to look forward to.”       Anticipation is your ability to create a life that is filled with moments and opportunities to look forward to, and intentionally noticing what there is to look forward to on a daily basis.

Smile!
Key decision: “Every day, I find a way to smile – especially on bad days.”
Simply stated, this is your expression of joy through a genuine smile and laughter.

What I found most interesting were my power triggers.  The power triggers provide you with the greatest opportunity to boost your happiness level because these are the ones you use the least – and perhaps even neglect.  YIKES!  These are definitely things that I don’t do a lot of:

Movement
“I spend 30 minutes each day moving my body.”
Movement is exercising and getting your body moving on a regular basis.

Relaxation
“I sleep. I rest. I embrace what is.”
Relaxation is the habit of letting go, slowing down, taking breaks, and trusting that all things will work together for good.

Savoring                                                                                                                                              “Every day, I enjoy a moment worth savoring.”                                                                      Savoring is your ability to actively savor and appreciate positive experiences in your life.

The Happiness Trigger Test takes about 5 minutes, take it and share your results. It is time for you to focus on your power triggers so you can be unstoppable in all areas of our life!

Whatever your triggers may be, I would love the chance to celebrate, encourage and reward you.  Let me put your happiness level into overdrive and best of all, I will reward you with FREE and discounted products for you, your friends and your family.  Want to know more? Fill out the form below
