Tasty Tuesday: Pigs Can Fly

I’m sure you are tired of the turkey leftovers by now, right?  I mean you can only eat so much turkey, so many different ways…..

Last week was the first Saturday in a LONG time I didn’t have a vendor event.  Crazy, right?  But sometimes a girl just needs to take a break.  I did stop by a few of them and was excited to run into my friends from “Wicked Good Spices“.  I shop with them all summer long when they are at the Brick Farmer’s Market so it was nice to get to catch up with them.  They shared this yummy recipe with me

Ingredients:

1 – 10 lb Boston Shoulder Pork Butt (rinsed and patted dry)

1 head of garlic (peeled and crushed)

1 large onion (peeled and cut into wedges)

4 TBSP of “pigs can fly” Wicked Good Spice Blend

1/3 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar

Directions:

  1.  Place all ingredients in a 6 quart crock pot
  2. Set crock pot to High for 30 minutes, then turn down to Low for 8 hours
  3. Pork is done when it falls away from the bone
  4. Remove pork from crock pot and reserve 1 cup of juice
  5. Shred pork with two forks
  6. Add any BBQ say you prefer and add juice back into the pork
  7. Serve on rolls with coleslaw, red onion and ranch dressing.

Thinking ahead to Super Bowl parties, this would make a great party dish.  Take it along to a covered dish party as well.  How will you travel with it?  Use ThirtyOne’s Fresh Market Thermal to carry your crockpot.  The Fresh Market Thermal is a stylish, portable thermal large enough to hold two 9″x13″ casserole dishes . A must-have for family picnics, tailgating, trips to the beach, days on the boat, potlucks, grocery shopping or weekend camping. Its water-resistant Leak Lock® thermal lining means you can add ice to this cooler bag to keep food and drinks cold. Need more room? The sides unsnap and expand to give you more space inside. Long handles allow you to carry it over your shoulder when you need to be hands-free. The Fresh Market Thermal also features a zipper closure for securing contents and an exterior front pocket to hold other important items.

Tasty Tuesday – Super Bowl Treats

SUPER BOWL PICTURE

Well, my main team – the J-E-T-S, may not be in the Super Bowl but I will be cheering on the Carolina Panthers.  If you are wondering why – my daughter lives in North Carolina so it is on my list of favorite teams even if I don’t claim to be their Number 1 cheerleader.

Here are some YUMMY Super Bowl snacks courtesy of the Food Network:

Hot Crab Dip Mix 3 ounces cream cheese, 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, and hot sauce and chopped parsley to taste; fold in 1/2 pound crabmeat. Spread in a baking dish, top with breadcrumbs (preferably panko) and bake at 425 degrees F until golden, about 15 minutes.

Mustard-Beer Dip Simmer 12 ounces pale ale until reduced by half. Stir in 1/2 cup yellow mustard, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon each mustard powder and cider vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce; cool.

Cauliflower Hummus Toss 4 cups cauliflower florets with olive oil and 1 teaspoon curry powder; roast at 425 degrees F, 20 minutes. Puree with 1 drained can chickpeas, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 2 tablespoons tahini, 1 garlic clove, and salt to taste. Blend in 2 tablespoons olive oil

Latin Chip Mix Combine 3 tablespoons melted butter with 1 teaspoon each ground cumin and chipotle chile powder. Toss with 3 cups black bean chips, 1 cup corn nuts, 1 thinly sliced jalapeno and 2 teaspoons lime zest. Bake at 400 degrees F, 10 minutes, stirring once.

Kettle Corn Put 3/4 cup popcorn kernels and 3 tablespoons each sugar and vegetable oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot. Partially cover and cook over high heat, shaking, until the popping stops. Season with salt.

Tex-Mex Shrimp Cocktail Mix 3/4 cup ketchup, two 4-ounce cans chopped green chiles, and 2 tablespoons each lime juice, horseradish and chopped cilantro. Serve with chilled cooked shrimp.

Breaded Pork Sliders Boil 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup each sake and Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons each sugar and mirin, and 1 tablespoon each minced garlic and ginger, 5 minutes. Pound 1/2 pound pork cutlets until thin. Coat in flour, then beaten egg, then breadcrumbs (preferably panko); fry in hot oil. Slice and serve on 12 mini buns with the ketchup sauce.

Breaded Veggie Sliders Make Breaded Pork Sliders (No. 41), replacing the pork with cremini mushroom caps and/or sliced Japanese eggplant. Add shredded cabbage and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.

Shrimp Sliders Combine 2 tablespoons each mayonnaise and whole-grain mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, and minced parsley and hot sauce to taste. Season 1 pound butterflied shrimp with salt and cayenne. Dip in buttermilk, coat in cornmeal and fry in hot oil. Serve on mini seeded buns with lettuce, pickles and the mustard sauce.

Mini Veggie Pockets Warm 12 mini pitas. Cut off the tops and fill with hummus, crumbled feta and chopped olives, cucumber, lettuce and tomato.

Who’s Ready for Football?

football LUT

As you can guess by the title – I am excited about football season starting.  Alright, I was never really a football fan until Rob and I got together.  I tolerated the Sunday ritual in the beginning by finding things to keep me busy while the game was on. Then one day a light bulb went off – that AHA moment when I realized, why not just enjoy the time together.  So now we watch football together – I am a little more vocal than he is but it is fun times except when our teams are playing against each other.  He is a die-hard Giants fan.  I am a JETS fan.  No heckling allowed!

The Fall season brings with it lots of different outdoor activities especially football which means tailgating or cold benches as the crisp fall air comes rolling in.  Maybe you are already dreading hauling snacks, planning football parties or even thinking ahead to Super Bowl Sunday. There was a great blog by Kim of The Celebration Shoppe about the “10 Must Haves for Tailgating & Football Season”.  Numbers 7, 8, 9 & 10 involved Thirty One products!  Okay, so some of those may be retired but there are NEW ones to replace them.  Lots of options for tailgating including the NEW Family fun thermal that you can use ICE – yes I said ICE!

The large utility is  must have not only for tailgating but for all of the shopping that takes place BEFORE the event.  You can personalize it in your favorite team colors. How about adding a picnic thermal.  The picnic thermal will hold up to TWO six packs of your favorite drink.  You can add a top to your large utility tote too so everything stays neat and inside your bag.  Many customers also use their picnic thermal and their large utility tote for grocery shopping.

Need to convince  the males in your life that Thirty One is NOT just about purses!

for men

What better way than using our spirit collection or the camo print in a variety of products.  My hubby swore that he wouldn’t carry Thirty One – WRONG!  He now has an out and about lunch tote for work and when asked where he got it tells everyone that his wife sells it.   What a great advertisement for your business, right?  Make sure you always have business cards or mini catalogs handy when you are tailgating for the opportunity to share Thirty One.  Who knows that tailgating party could turn into an impromptu party.

So, are you ready for football?  LUT display I am especially since pre-season has already started.  Don’t be left out in the cold, get yours today and show your school spirit!

Business Tips and Tricks, Hope Wissel

Technically Challenged

Happy Monday!!!  Yes, I am one of those crazy people that actually LIKE Mondays.  For me, it is the kick off to a new week with a new list of tasks to accomplish.

Over the last several weeks, I have found myself identifying as “technically challenged”.  Lately, it is more the case then ever.  With the start of the new year, many of my Thirty One sisters have been sharing things that help them in their business.  YIKES!  Technology plays a big part for many of them.

Now, I am old school – pen, paper, planner, etc.  I do have the calendar on my phone and computer synched together but they only work if you add the information to them.  I usually find that I have put an appointment on my phone but not in my planner or vice versa.  The end result – I need to have both in front of me to get any work done.

This week, I want to share with you some apps and tips that I have learned that may help you in your business.  For those of you who are tech savvy this may seem VERY basic.  I believe that there are a lot more technically challenged people out there and they are just a little embarrassed to admit it.

The first app/program that I have semi-conquered is pic monkey.  This is SOOO user friendly.  It is a great program to make flyers, Facebook covers, collages, etc.  I used it to make my Superbowl Ladies Party flyer:

I will admit, it took me a little while and it may not be perfect BUT I did it!  Thank you Tina for allowing me to copy your idea.  If I can do it, so can you.  I haven’t gotten the Facebook cover thing down but I will keep at it until I have the sizing right.

The next one should have been a no-brainer for me… Google docs and Google drive.  UGH! If you have a gmail account, you have access to BOTH of these apps.  I had NEVER used them.  Thank you Melissa Fietsam for sharing this with us.  I did my Birthday survey with google docs.  It was so EASY.  If you haven’t filled out the survey, please click the link so that I can CELEBRATE you during your special month.  Then I save all of my standard letters and forms to Google drive.  I was super excited when I was able to pull the information up on my phone.  I could then copy and paste the information into an email or into a Facebook message.  It is the little things that get me excited and make me a……

happy camper

Like I said, I am technically challenged but willing to learn.  If you haven’t used either of these, give them a try.  We will conquer this technology thing together.

Have  a ThirtyOne-derful day!
