My Thirty One Anniversary

partywithhope

Struggling with trying to remember BUT grateful I have blogged about this before.

On February 7th, 2011, I talked to Hope Shortt. See, the truth is I joined Thirty One in 2009 and didn’t do much with it.  Yup, I was probably known as a kitknapper. I had a few sales but nothing much and it wasn’t long before I went inactive.

I can’t remember exactly how or why it all happened – God had a plan.  I starting following Hope on Facebook and I read her story.  I had a conversation with her and told her I wanted to join her Thirty One team. She asked me “what my why” was? I mean we ask people all of the time, “What is YOUR why?”. I was nervous and this people pleasing person told her I wanted to earn some extra money. The truth was, deep down I wanted to have a big dream but fear and doubt crept in.  So, I settled on sharing the products at vendor/craft shows, not wanting to do home parties and really not interested in having a team. I was a full time COO (Chief Operating Officer) of a non-profit, who had time for much of anything.  I figured the recruiting aspect was taken care of because it was just one day prior to the FREEZE which was a relief. I had been doing craft/ vendor shows for over 20 years, so it was going to be easy. Hope listened and said she would be there to help when I needed her. No pressure just support and kindness.2014-08-09-18-17-48-4

So started the journey with Thirty One – Round 2.  I did vendor events, lots of them, selling but still NOT booking parties.  Fear and doubt were my friends.  I didn’t have much confidence – I know amazing, right?  This was so far out of my comfort zone.

I got my my first TWO potential recruits during the freeze.  I was honest with both of them from the start. I wasn’t doing home parties and I was going to learn along with them. Believe it or not, they still joined as soon as the freeze lifted and quickly qualified with $1,000 in sales each. I was now a Senior Consultant. I wasn’t sure what it meant but it was okay.  I was having fun and slowly building confidence.  One of my first home office leads was for a HOME PARTY! Panic set in… it was someone I didn’t know and I was clueless. I had never done a home party. I could do this… and I DID! I stumbled my way through it – no additional booked parties or recruits but I had sales and it was kind of fun.

My FIRST Thirty One National Conference was August of 2012.  It was there I set a goal and decided to dream big and go for Leadership. The goal was to be Director BEFORE National Conference 2013. The stats say those who go to national conference earn more – TRUE! Those who go to national conference – PROMOTE – TRUE! October, 2012 I was DIQ and in January 2013, I was blessed to earn my $1,000 Director Bonus. It was a whirlwind time filled with lots of emotions. I had gained confidence as a consultant but being a Director brought new fears and challenges.1393954_10153476793760724_540659844_n

National Conference 2013 with my daughter and members of the Rays of Hope Team. I walked across stage and was CELEBRATED as a NEW Thirty One Director. Tears of joy flowed freely all weekend and continue each time I think back to the moment. Hope Shortt, my National Executive Director, hugged me on stage.  I struggle with memories but the emotion of walking across the stage stays with me bringing me to tears each time I think of it.

Since then my why has changed so much. I no longer work full-time and we rely on my Thirty One business as the second income in the house.  It pays bills and allows us to travel a little bit.

I still sometimes struggle with my “why” and learning to DREAM BIG. I still get nervous before a Home party.  I continue to work on personal development because inner gremlins along with fear and doubt still on occasion haunt me.  I am blessed with a sisterhood across the country who helps me when I am struggling, who celebrates with me and who encourages me when the struggle is real.  My team continues to grow and inspires me everyday.  They accept me for who I am and have helped me to learn to love me for me.2014-07-24-08-41-13I would say the biggest blessing from my Thirty One business is the restoration of a confidence in myself I lost when I was in HIGH SCHOOL. Yes, I have earned FREE products! Yes, I have been able to pay off debt & travel as a result of my commission checks!  Yes, I have found a sisterhood I didn’t know existed in my Thirty One sisters! Yes, I have grown in my walk with God, learning to trust and believe his will will be done in my business! These are all the things Thirty One has blessed me with…. it CHANGED MY LIFE. Could it be the think that changes your life?

How to Energize Your Team

75180fcabf8643899e3de2c802445da0The Monday before Christmas has arrived……
Are you running around like a nut doing last minute shopping? Are you cleaning the house, cooking and baking for the guests arriving this week? Are you chilling out because you are totally done?  I much admit I am doing some last minute shopping…

In the midst for those of us in direct sales, life can be in flux.  Maybe the cut-off for holiday delivery has passed.  Maybe you have been pushing for weeks and just want to take a break.  Maybe you are already in planning mode for next year so you have written off the next two weeks.  I have experienced each of these over the last 6 years and honestly, the results come January have been a little scary.  I woke up this morning thinking “My January calendar is empty, what am I going to do?”.

Yup, doubt and fear crept in but were quickly pushed aside as I thought about how my team must be feeling.  Many of them are experiencing their first holiday “crash” change of catalog season.  What about your team?  Are they tired of the doldrums?  Do they need an infusion of new energy?

I am going to share with you 5 ways to energize your team which have helped my team over the years:

f21cea37ed7665f26c1d8889872b93d2

  1. Send some happy mail… just because. Include confetti, stick some candy in a tube and bling it up with stickers or rhinestones and let them know how much they mean to you.  ANY chocolate is always a favorite.
  2. Invite them to participate in a special training with you or another successful person from your upline, outside professional trainer, or person within your company.
  3. Have a fun game night to just have fun together and really get to know each other. You can do it potluck style or have everyone bring toppings for banana splits and you provide the bananas and ice cream.   If you are watching the calories… invite them for a spa night of foot soaks, facial masks, and lots of laughter.game-night
  4. Revisit their why and form new personal success plans. You can even offer some extra personal attention and coaching.
  5. Offer a challenge or work toward a common goal. Some fun challenge ideas might be to:
    • Beat Your Best Week or Month
    • Have a Mystery Gift Drawing. Let your team earn tickets for each Income Producing Activity they accomplish.  Have several prizes to keep it fun.  Vary your prizes… even through in a few booby prizes or gag gifts.

Spring is right around the corner… take the time to lighten up, have fun, and do some things together!

Believe it or not, relaxing and having fun together will get the creative juices flowing which will result in growing your business.  What kinds of things do you do to energize your team?

Do You Have a Focused Weekly Plan?

unknown-1

No this is not a sales pitch for Passion Planners even though it has saved my life more than once.  This is about having a simple, focused, and consistent schedule whether it be for you, your family or for your direct sales business.

As women, we have at least three or four balls juggling at all times: work, children, home, direct sales business and oh, course there is our life on social media, right?  How quickly do your best laid plans for the day go array when you get lost in the black hole of social media?

Yes, it is FRIDAY and I am already talking about next week.  WHY? Because I have found when I take about an hour or so on Saturday or Sunday to plan out the upcoming week, this get done.  I know, many nights you fall into bed feeling like you worked your butt off but yet feel like you got absolutely nothing accomplished. Been there, done that and have more than one t-shirt!  Some weeks, my planner looks like this:unknown

Nothing written in except maybe a doctor’s appointment or two.  It is the weeks like this when I squirrel.  Running around putting our fires and trying to get something, anything accomplished.

Squirreling find come with the MS – the truth is I have squirreled for years when I worked from home.  A load of laundry here, wash the dishes there, oh and I went to look for something in the “junk drawer” so I spent time cleaning it out.  For women who work at home (not just in direct sales but also as moms and wives), having a focused plan each week allows us to get so much more accomplished with time to spare.  Yes, you can have spare time to just sit and enjoy your coffee before it gets cold!

As we head into November which is the true start of the busy holiday season, I am trying something new (for me).  I have heard it a million times but always found a reason NOT to do it.  A simple “days of the week” system to help you stay focused and work your biz (or your home) with intention.  This is a system you can tweak to fit YOUR needs but at least give it a try…..

Me Monday:  A clear focus starts with a strong personal business.  Spend the first day of the week working on your personal calendar. That includes booking parties, scheduling Facebook Party posts and hostess coaching for up-coming parties. When your calendar is full, you’ll feel more confident and ready to tackle the rest of your goals. Go you!

Team Tuesday:  Follow up with sponsoring leads and set coaching calls with anyone on your team who wants more support.  Being an effective coach is about asking the right questions, being a good listener and stay in the reality zone.

Win (Woohoo) Wednesday: This is the day for me to connect with my team and my customers.  I am planning to celebrate the past week’s accomplishments, give reminders on upcoming events and encourage different aspects of training linked back to the weekly calls hosted by the company.  This is also the day I am going to introduce our “team consultant of the week”.  This will give team members an opportunity to get to know each other building a stronger bond of support.

Thank You Thursday: Keep your hostesses and customers coming back by saying THANKS! Use graphics on Facebook Parties, Facebook Live shout outs to your $500 Club Hostesses ($500+ Parties) and handwritten personal notes to all. Don’t forget to include a reminder to send referrals your way for a bonus gift!

Follow-Up Friday: Congrats! You made it to Friday and you had a focused, productive week.  Take some time on Friday to follow-up with anything left on your to-do list and get ready to enjoy the weekend..

Mind you, in the midst of this focused plan, emails and social media seem to be missing, right?  The truth is, my notifications for Facebook are turned off on my phone and on my computer.  When I am working in my office, I close both my email and my social media windows.  Then I set aside some time to check them and respond BUT only for a short period of time.

What are you best tips for staying focused when working your direct sales business OR managing your household.  Share them with us….

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

Whose Voice Will You Listen to Today?

imgres

Thank you Sharon Jaynes and Girlfriends in God for today’s message:

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” ~ John 14:26

My son played on his high school’s basketball team. At one of the games, I noticed a man on the home side of the court video recording of the game. I also noticed a man on the opposing side doing the same.

“Steve, who are those men with the video cameras and why are they recording the game?” I asked my husband.

“The guy in the opposing stand is from the team that we’ll be playing next week,” he explained. “He is recording the game to study our weaknesses, so our opponents will know where to attack and defeat us. The man on our side is recording the game also looking for weakness, but for a different reason. He will show our team their weaknesses so they can learn from them and improve . . . to make them better. Same video. Different purposes.”

Ah, a sudden glory moment. I don’t know much about sports, but I do know a bit about how the enemy works. He records the video of our lives and looks for our weakness to bring us down—to plan his attack, to defeat us.

The Bible has many names for that enemy: Satan, the great serpent, the deceiver, and the devil. But the most telling name is found in Revelation 12:10: the accuser who accuses believers before God day and night.

Some say that the devil’s main role is tempting mankind to sin. But I believe what trumps even temptation is his role as the accuser who shackles us with shame and condemnation once we succumb to the temptation. He paces before God saying, “She did this and she did that.” He plays and replays the video in the theater of your mind, pointing out all your faults and weaknesses to bring you down. He is AGAINST you.

But remember, there were two men creating a video of Steven’s game. Just as the accuser is against you, there is someone else who is for you. Before Jesus went to the cross, He assured His followers that He would not leave them as orphans. He promised to send the Spirit who would encourage, enlighten, empower, and intercede for all believers. And then Jesus gave the Spirit a name: the Advocate. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26).

An advocate is someone who is for you and acts on your behalf. Yes! He is for you! And one of the ways that He is for you is to convict you of sin—of something that you have done that is contrary to the ways of God. God will never reveal a weakness, a sin, or a flaw in your life just for the sake of exposing it. He always reveals a deficit because it’s time to make it right—to conform you to the image of His Son. The Holy Spirit awakens your senses to an area of your life that you need to change, and then helps you do it. He shows you the video and says, “Right there. See that move. Let’s work on that area and improve your game.”

While the accuser points our your weakness and makes you feel you can never change, the Advocate points out your weakness so that you can change. It’s the same video, but seen from a different perspective. So tell me, who’s voice are you going to listen to? Who’s voice are you going to believe?

Are You a Bull Dog in the Rain?

doggy-rain-coat

Interesting, right? A Thirty One coach told the story about her bull dog sitting in the rain. The bull dog went out in the rain and proceeded to sit at the end of the walkway in a downpour. Alright, some dogs may like the rain but this bull dog, sat looking up at the sky and because of their facial structure, the water dripped down his throat and made him gag. Did he stop looking up at the sky to avoid the rain? NO! Even when tempted with treats, food and his favorite toy – he continued to sit looking at the sky, gagging as a result of the rain running down his throat. When did he stop and come in – when HE was ready. No amount of coaching or incentives could change his mind until HE was ready.

So what does this have to do with anything?  Whether you are a mom with young kids at home or are in direct sales with a growing, we can all learn a lesson from the bull dog.

Kids and our teams are like bull dogs. No matter how much we try to inspire them or  motivate them, it is something that happens on the inside.  As leaders, we need to lead by example.  No one person is BORN into leadership. Let me tell you that I was glad to hear that because I never really thought of myself as a leader.  There are traits that are common to ALL leaders and if you have at least one or two of these traits – YOU are leadership material. This was an AHA moment for me. Cast those doubts aside and let’s see if you have any of these traits:

  • Do you share the vision? Can you share the vision of the company, your upline and your personal vision?
  • Do you see the potential in others? Are you always looking for the positives in others? Do you encourage them?
  • Are you humble in whatever role you have?
  • Do you DREAM BIG knowing that no idea is crazy?
  • Do you believe in yourself?

Here is one more way to visualize yourself as a leader – consider the people who have made a positive impact on your life, who have inspired you, who have become a mentor for you. Write them down along with three of their personality traits. What are some of the common traits that they had – kind, strong, independent, positive attitude. So, as I look to grow my team this year wider as well as deeper, I am going to look at my ENTIRE team to see if I am missing any potential leaders.

“Failure is an event not a person and can change at any moment”.

So, TRUST your instincts, TAME your inner bulldog and DISCOVER the leader in you! So, who is ready to GROW into leadership? Remember that the greatest leaders seek the advice of others and don’t have to have all of the answers!
