Help Us To Make A Difference

I know school isn’t out.  I know you are thinking about summer.  I know the last thing you want to hear about is back to school, right?

People start businesses for many different reasons.  Many will say it is to make money or to have a flexible schedule.  While others have a passion not tied to money (believe it or not!).   It may sound crazy BUT my motivation for my business goes far deeper than being able to pay bills.  Don’t get me wrong, I need to pay bills.

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others.  From raising funds for MDA as a kid to volunteering with disabled youth to being a social worker, I like to see people smile.  My business is no different.

I want to Bring a smile to face of those who are hurting and especially to kids because it is not usually their fault but the result of circumstances.  They need to know someone cares even in their darkest moments.

I have been doing give back programs since I started with Thirty One.  With the help of my family, friends and customers we have done zipper pouches for the Pediatrics Unit at Easter; Chemo comfort bags, and USA HERO zipper pouches for our Vets.  You have helped me to raise money for Smiles for Trevor, Relay for Life, Suicide Awareness and have helped families with medical expenses.  Together, we are making a difference in the lives of others especially women and children letting them know someone cares!

You know the “Back to School” campaigns which provide kids with backpacks and school supplies, right? These programs help each child start off the school year on the right foot.

Last year, we provided 31 children with THERMAL LUNCH TOTES filled with some healthy snacks.  Let’s be honest, the FREE lunch program doesn’t always have kid friendly foods. No hate mail PLEASE because I know there are some places with great meals but let’s be honest, not all of them do.

We will be doing this AGAIN this year.  For $20, you can sponsor a thermal tote filled with healthy snacks for a child in need. If you want to help BUT you don’t have $20, donate what you can – $1, $2, $5, or $10. Maybe finances are tight BUT you know a business who may want to help, GREAT! Let me know or forward this information to them. I will supply a list of business sponsors in every thermal tote along with blogging about them – FREE advertising for helping out a great cause. Where else could they get FREE advertising for $20 or $40?

Won’t you help to make a difference today?  You can fill out the form below or contact me directly. I will be happy to invoice you. Let’s bring a smile to the face of as many children as we can this school year.  The deadline is June 15th!

Have ThirtyOne-derful day!

What’s Your Motivation

Operation Spring Child

Throwback Thursday is my first “gives” project. These 6 zipper pouches were delivered to Ocean Medical Center for the kids spending Easter in the hospital.  Filled with lots things to keep them busy and that they could share with their siblings.

That actually leads me into today’s blog..

WHAT motivates you to FOCUS on what you are doing? WHY is it important to you?

I know you are saying things like – To earn an income.  To be home with my family.  To impact the world.  To share my message.  To get out of debt.  To do meaningful work

So, here is my next question?  If that is REALLY what motivates you, why are you possibly struggling with growing your business, focusing on the things that need to be done and being consistent?  Don’t get me wrong, you are not alone.  The truth is that we really aren’t usually motivated by what we SAY we are motivated by!  I admit, I fall into this category too.

Those individuals that you know who are ROCKING their business are the ones who are SUPER CLEAR on what motivates them.  I came across a story about Sarah Kay Hoffman and her business ‘a loving spoon’ nut butter. She is passionate about healthy food, real food and nutrition. She also believe in Yumminess with a capital Y!

Sarah works a full time job, has an almost-2-year-old and STILL is cranking out weekend trade shows, doing full production of her product and media left and right. Rumor has it that you may see her on Season 8 of Shark Tank! #WOW!

What moves her to keep on? Despite fatigue, toddler momhood and even health challenges, she is ALWAYS moving forward!! She is RELENTLESS!

Here’s a clue… orphans. Yep. Sarah has a heart for orphans, for foster care adoption and it all starts at home. She and her husband fostered their little love until their recent adoption and because she has such a heart for this cause…a portion of EVERY JAR she sells goes towards orphans.

This is what keeps Sarah FIRED UP.  At the end of every month, she is thinking things like:

  • How can I make that orphan check bigger?
  • What media outlets will have the best results for my orphans?
  • Which influencers can share the story to impact the orphans?
  • How do I help more-more-more orphans?

This is different than ‘How can I make more money?’ or ‘How can I quit my job?’ or ‘How do I get to xx jars a week?’ or ‘How do I book more parties in a month?’

It is the fuel for your business.  That is where I am right now in my business…..my passion is to help women who are struggling especially single moms who are trying to make their life better.  See I was there – I was that single mom who fell into drug addiction who spent a few months being homeless.  With support and encouragement, I was able to turn things around.  Now I want to do the same for other women.  So what do I need to do?

Focus on THAT.

CAN it really be that simple?  The truth is that it can be that simple.  Get crystal clear on what you want to do.  Focus on what motivates you at the end of the day, the month or the year. Of course, I want to pay off credit card debt but to be honest, that is not what gets me up every morning and in my office.  What gets and keeps me in my office is my desire to bring a smile to the face of a woman who is struggling – to make her sparkle even if it is only for a moment.

Let me ask you again, what motivates you?  Is your answer different now?  Share your thoughts with us.  If you have a product that “gives back” let me know, I would love to share it with others.

Have  ThirtyOne-derful day!

Trades of Hope

It is Saturday Spotlight…..

trades of hope

About three years ago, I got an email from a local Thirty One Director.  She wanted to know if we could connect.  I have to admit that I was hesitant.  I was a new Director and feeling a little overwhelmed by leadership.  God nudged and I responded.  I am so glad that I did.  I am blessed to now call Karen Peet a friend, a sister in Christ and until recently a Thirty One sister.  Here is her story about God’s tug on her heart:

Did you ever feel like you had a missing puzzle piece in your life? Well, that was me. I love what I do. I am involved with a local non profit, Step of Faith Ministry. We do lots of local mission work and have a large ministry in Haiti. It is all wonderful and I love it! Our ministry helps many but still I felt a missing piece. One of my friends in Haiti said that ” “Haitians need to stop taking. What they need is a hand up by learning how to work!” That conversation never left me. One day in August 2014 I found it…that piece. It is called Trades of Hope (TOH). Trades of Hope helps provide sustainable income to women mostly in third world countries through a party plan model business. They are being given an opportunity that they have never received before, which is to learn skills, work and provide for their families. We are giving a voice to the voiceless and empowering women all over the world one product at a time. I am helping to provide for my family and at the same time helping another woman across the world provide for hers. Plus the products are beautiful, great quality and handmade made with love.

I asked Karen to share the TOP 3 things that she loved about their products…It’s hard for me to name my top three things I like about our products but here it goes!

1. I love that our products are fair trade. That our woman make a living wage and can feed, provide a home and education for her family. TOH makes sure she has enough to do all that.
2. Our products are teaching skills! Not only do our artisans learn skills to make our stunning products but they learn more (designing products, budgeting, buying goods to make our products, travel to buy, accounting and more)! Plus women are teaching women. It has a ripple effect.
3. When you buy a product you are getting more than a piece of jewelry or home good, you are providing HOPE! I love that being a Compassionate Entrepreneur for TOH gives me the opportunity to be a voice for the voiceless. I am speaking up for those who did not have an opportunity in their desperate situation. We represent woman in extreme poverty, victims of sex trades, slavery and more! Hope is one of the most empowering things you can give.

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!
